Baydarasharskoye oil field

Spherical pressure vessels: Unique design, advantages and applications

He represents

Since its inception, the Iranian oil industry has relied on a number of oil fields of varying sizes, which at times played a crucial role in the country’s energy supply and exports. Among these valuable fields, the Paydar-e Shargh  field   in Khuzestan Province is one of the most important and has attracted considerable attention in recent years due to its geographical location, geological characteristics, production capacity, and significance for development plans.
Although not as large as other, more well-known fields such as Ahvaz, Gachsalan, and Maroun, Paydar-e Shargh occupies a key position in oil production and development projects because of the high quality of its crude oil, reasonable production costs, and expansion potential.

The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive and practical analysis of the geographical coordinates, history, technical characteristics, production methods, problems and opportunities of the Baydar-Vostochny oil field, in the hope that it will be useful to both professionals and laypersons.

1. Geographical location and regional importance

The Paydar-e Shargh oil field is located     in southwestern Iran, in     the northern province of Khuzestan, where the majority of Iran’s onshore oil reserves are concentrated. It borders other fields such as Paydar-e Gharb and Dehloran and is geologically classified as part of the southern oil belt.

The field’s proximity to pipelines, convenient transport routes, and existing oil infrastructure offers significant advantages for its development and production. Furthermore, the region’s strategic location near major refineries and production facilities in the southwest of the country reduces the costs of transporting and processing crude oil.

2. History of the definition and development

Exploration of the Baidarsaray oil field began several decades ago. 3D and 2D seismic surveys were conducted in the west and northwest of the country. Preliminary data indicate significant oil and gas potential within the geological structure of this area.

In the following years, field production stabilized thanks to the drilling of exploration wells and the collection of more precise data, and development began. Over the last two decades, numerous projects have been implemented in the field, aimed at increasing production, expanding operational capacity, modernizing wellhead equipment, and improving production rates.

Furthermore, the involvement of many local companies in oil field development projects has also contributed to improving the level of technical knowledge and experience in my country’s oil industry.

3. Geological features and sediments

The Paydar-e Shargh oil field is characterized by highly concentrated oil, mainly found in the Asmari, Pangestan, and Salvak fields     .  These     fields     are among the most important oil and gas fields in Iran and indeed in the entire Middle East.

Some important features of this database software are:

  • Sufficient porosity     (approximately 15–20% in some layers)

  • Acceptable level of penetration     of economic production

  • The reservoir’s boundaries are stable and     there are no major destructive faults.

  • The pressure in the tank is     suitable for early natural extraction.

Many oil fields have high natural production rates, and the need to increase production rates is only recognized after many years.

4. Production capacities and their role in the national energy structure

The production capacity of the Baydarsharga oil field varies depending on the number of wells, maintenance schedules, and production strategies. The field makes a significant contribution to regional oil production, and its oil is used as feedstock for several refineries or exported.

The Bidar East field may not seem so important compared to the large oil fields, but     a number of     medium-sized fields, including Bidar East, Bidar West and Dehloran, together account for the majority of the country’s sustainable and reliable production.

5. Technologies and production methods

In the Baidarsharga oil field, different oil extraction and production methods are used depending on the properties of the respective rock formation. These include:

5.1 Natural Production

In the initial stages of production, the reservoir pressure is sufficient to   ensure natural   oil production. This method is considered the most cost-effective and easiest to apply.

5.2. Application of submersible pumps (ESP)

In some oil wells, electric centrifugal pumps were used because the pressure was low or production needed to be increased.

5.3. Enhanced Oil Recovery Methods (EOR/EOR)

Although no large-scale projects to increase oil production have yet been implemented in the field , studies have been conducted to investigate the potential for future natural gas or water injections. These measures aim to increase production rates and prevent a decline in natural output.

6. Operational Problems and Tasks

Like many historical sites in Iran, Beydar Shargh Square faces numerous challenges. Among the most significant are:

6.1 The pressure in the tank gradually decreases.

This is a natural phenomenon that occurs in oil fields during the production process and     requires the use of auxiliary equipment such as booster pumps or water injection devices.

6.2 Sedimentation and problems with wells

Asphalt deposits, salt accumulations, or sand seepage can lead to mechanical failures and damage to oil wells.

6.3. The necessity of reconstructing soil structures

Although  the infrastructure  in this area is already in place, some parts of it still need to be modernized and updated in order to handle higher production volumes in the future.

6.4 Environmental regulations

Protecting the region’s ecosystem, managing waste, and controlling  gas emissions   are important aspects that must be considered when implementing oil projects.

7. Economic and strategic importance of the Bidarshak oil field

Sustainable development of the oil fields in the east offers significant economic and strategic advantages:

  • Due to the favorable conditions of the deposit,     production costs are reasonable.

  • Critical infrastructure facilities in the southwest of the country

  • Expansion potential and possibility of increasing production

  • High-quality oil, suitable for refining

These characteristics have secured the sector a firm place in the long-term plans of the Ministry of Oil and the National Iranian Oil Company.

8. The role of public spaces in regional development

Beyond its general economic importance, the sustainable development of the oil field in the east also brings significant benefits to the region:

  • Creation of direct and indirect employment opportunities

  • Development of roads and internal infrastructure in the region

  • Expansion of economic exchange with surrounding towns and villages.

  • Strengthening the development of public infrastructure, such as electricity, drinking water and communication supply.

This sector is considered one of the most important sources for the sustainable development of the province of Khuzestan.

9. Perspectives and development plans

In recent years, the development of small and medium-sized oil fields has been a top priority for the Iranian oil industry. The Paydar Sharg oil field plays a key role in this. Associated projects include:

  • Drilling new wells

  • Improvement of oil well equipment

  • Increased production through modern methods

  • Reconstruction of existing facilities

  • Reduction of pollutant emissions

This issue has been placed on the agenda, and there is hope that with the implementation of these plans, production in the Bidar-Vostochny oil field will increase or at least stabilize in the future.

10. Conclusion

The Paydar Shargh oil field is one of the most important and influential fields in the Iranian oil industry.     Thanks to its favorable geological conditions     , high productivity, strategically advantageous location, and enormous development potential, it plays a crucial role in Iran’s energy supply.
Despite challenges such as declining reservoir pressure and the need for plant modernization, careful planning and the use of modern technologies ensure that this field will remain a significant source of sustainable oil production in Iran.

In short, the development and utilization of oil fields like Paydar-e Shargh not only strengthens the national economy but also plays a crucial role in regional development, job creation, and social sustainability. The future of the Iranian oil industry depends significantly on the prudent management of these fields, and Paydar-e Shargh serves as a successful example of this.
